Documentation

Start here. Each section is short on purpose.

Getting started

  • Install Office Remote Desk on both machines.
  • Find your 9-digit ID on This Desk.
  • Enter the other ID under Remote Desk and press Connect.
  • The remote user accepts the request - the session opens.

Unattended access

  • Open Settings → Unattended access.
  • Set a permanent password (12+ characters).
  • Enable Start with Windows so the service runs at boot.
  • Connect any time using the ID plus that password.

File transfer

During a session open the Files panel, then drag files into either pane. Transfers use the same encrypted channel as the screen stream.

Your workspace

  • Create a workspace with your email, or open an invite link from a colleague.
  • Chat for channels and direct messages, with files and history that follow you between devices.
  • Projects for tasks, and a client per project if you bill for the work.
  • Admins invite members and set roles under Settings → Members.

Meetings & call recording

  • Start a meeting from any channel; everyone in the room joins peer to peer.
  • Press Record to capture the call. The file is written to your computer and never uploaded.
  • Everyone in the room is shown a recording notice while it runs — there is no silent recording.
  • On the trial and free plans a call ends at the plan’s time limit; the countdown is on screen throughout.

WorkTrack: timer to invoice

  • Pick a project and press Start. The timer belongs to you — nothing is recorded until you start it, or after you pause.
  • Diary shows your day as a timeline: what was started, screenshots, idle stretches, and activity measured from real input.
  • Delete any screenshot of yourself from your own diary; the tracked minutes stay.
  • Timesheets: submit a week, an approver signs it off or returns it with a note.
  • Billing: set an hourly rate and budget on the project, then build a PDF invoice from approved hours only.
  • Admins configure screenshot frequency, blurring, retention and per-person exemptions under Settings → WorkTrack.

Android

The Android app is for reporting: sign in to your workspace to read chat, check projects and see your tracked hours and timesheets. It does not run a timer and never captures your phone’s screen — time is tracked on the computer where the work happens.

Troubleshooting

  • Stuck on "Registering..." - the app cannot reach the signaling server; check the server URL and your firewall.
  • Connect never completes - both sides are behind strict NAT; make sure a TURN server is configured.
  • Black screen - the remote machine is on a secure desktop (UAC prompt); install the helper service.
  • Session refused as blocked - this machine has been blocked by an administrator. Contact whoever runs your server; it is lifted from the admin panel.
  • Timer will not start - WorkTrack is off for your workspace, or you are exempt from tracking. Both are set by an admin under Settings → WorkTrack.
  • Session or call cut off early - you are on the trial or free plan, which caps their length. The badge in the title bar shows your plan.

Command line

OfficeRemoteDesk-Setup.exe /S # silent install
Office Remote Desk.exe --id 712314590 # connect on launch
Office Remote Desk.exe --server wss://... # override server URL

Licence & trial

  • Every workspace starts on a 7-day free trial: 5-minute remote sessions and calls, 3 projects, 100 MB uploads, up to 5 members.
  • When it ends nothing is deleted — the limits tighten to 1-minute sessions, 1 project and 25 MB uploads until a licence is activated.
  • Enter your key under Settings → Plan and press Activate — the limits lift at once, for everyone in the workspace.
  • Using remote access without signing in to a workspace? That keeps its own 30-day device trial, then 1-minute sessions every 2 hours.
  • The badge in the title bar always shows your current status.
  • Changing computer? Ask support to release the old device from your key.
